Actions committee organizes and conducts official marches, events, occupations and other official activities. Affiliate events are often supported by the committee.

WHAT: Requests OLA General Assembly to endorse and participate with OUT and Occupy and Unite Here Local 11\’s street action, We’re OUT…in support of Hyatt hotel workers — “Hyatt, we’re breaking up with you!” on Saturday, February 11th, 4-6pm at the West Hollywood Andaz Hyatt Hotel at 8401 Sunset Blvd. The specific messaging for this street action is: \”For too long, corporations like Hyatt Hotels have pretended to support LGBTQ issues to woo us as customers. We don’t want marketing; we want good working conditions for workers, straight and LGBTQ. We endorse the principle that “an Injustice to ONE is an injustice to ALL!” Hyatt says they are a friend to the LGBT community. But Hyatt workers’ injury rates are high, their wages are low, and immigrant women are exploited by Hyatt’s housekeeping subcontractors. L.A. Hyatt workers have been without a contract since November 2009!\”

WHY: The OLA Queer Affinity Group has been working with a newly formed justice coalition for all LGBTQ people in solidarity with the Occupy movement to build community participation in our movement. Unite Here Local 11 has committed to bring 150 picketers to this event, so it will be an excellent opportunity to outreach and show solidarity. It brings the Occupy Message to the West Hollywood community in a very concrete and visible way. We need to bring an equal number of community activists to this event!

HOW: 1. OLA General Assembly formally endorse this action. The OLA Queer Affinity Group and OLA Occupy the Hood have been invited to join the speakers stage. We wish to announce the OLA GA\’s formal endorsement of, and participation in, this action. 2. We will have signs and a banner indicating OLA\’s participation and presence — we need OLA activists to carry them! 3. This presents an excellent opportunity to distribute information and fliers about May 1st General Strike — please bring them! 5.
