The goal for the OWS movement

Forums:

I have been to the Occupy Los Angeles site a few times and talked to people at the media/internet team. But mostly I have been active online at the occupywallst.org main forum and in:

http://www.themultitude.org

I have also become a member of NYC General Assumbly forum. So far I have noted a consensus in these places that the movement should go for a Article V (5) Constitutional Convention to make constitutional amendments that will bring power back to the 99% from the 1% elite. But to raise awareness for this goal, the vehicle of choice seems to be a protest vote, using NotA (None of the Above) or Mic Check or Mike Check as a write in candidate in upcoming national elections. If there is a significant percentage of vote for this write in candidate, then that will put a hard number as a percentage of the voting public that supports the OWS movement. This will then put the OWS movement on a completely different plane than it is today. Please follow the discussions here:

We will appreciate your participation in these discussions and perhaps a consideration for a proposal in the General Assembly at a later point. I can come down to the occupy site if needed to discuss this in person.

I completely agree

Article V Constitutional Convention must be part of the endgame for "Occupations".  This usually is done by congress, but as you may have noticed, congress is completely broken and can't even pass a budget on time.

There is a second technique that has never been used before: two thirds of the States - 34 of 50 - can demand a constitutional convention if their legislatures demand it.  In other words, we need to direct our attention to our state representatives in Sacramento and express our grievances to them.  This technique is perfect for the Occupations.  If we communicate with each other and coordinate laterally, we can lobby our legislatures simultaneously, and thereby we can spur them to act in our behalf.

Mayhaps

Sure, mebe, as part of end game. For now, protest under First Amendment rights and declare grievances. 2/3rds States is a great option to consider, we're far from 2/3rd state consensus over anything.

Constitutional Convention

First, a ConCon is a MEANS to an end, not an end in itself.  The end, in my humble opinion, is to END CORPORATISM (the nexus between Corporations and the State).

We must be very, VERY careful about a ConCon.  Once opened, everything is on the table.  Powerful forces can then use it to make permanent changes that we might not favor.  If we do not have the power we may open a Pandoras box that we cannot control.  And we do not have the power.  The 1% have the power.

Constitutional Amendments are different.  They are limited to the specific issue they are addressing.  Tney AMEND but do not open the door to the overthrow of the entire Constitutuon (which is the danger of a ConCon)

I think that Constitutional Amendments could be a major weapon in our arsenal for taking the country back, routing out the Corporatists and breaking the nexus between Corporations and the State.

Again, more support is needed

Again, for a Constitutional Convention to be successful, a much more higher percentage of the general public of the USA must be made aware, self educated, and want to change . . . else what's the point? We may be wide spread, but we're far from any sort of majority. We have a message and reason that gets through and penetrates though, we're still in the spread the message stage. Patience.
