Trutanich threats of lawsuit:

“It also won't be the first time that Trutanich has wasted taxpayer resources to promote himself.”

“However, Trutanich is poised to 'officially' announce that he is running for District Attorney. His personal need to keep his name in the headlines is likely to override any concern that the cost of bankrupting the Occupiers will cost the City even more money.”

$1.7 million is supposed to cover police overtime, but according to Los Angeles Dragnet, even Trutanich chief deputy William Carter says “some city workers would have been on duty anyway,” which raises the question of what city workers are being paid for in the first place if their duties are to be charged back to anyone who causes them to actually do their jobs?

So after two months of actions intended to draw attention to the economic distress of mainstream America, we find out it's all about 'Nuch' and his career aspirations. Wonder how much his antics are worth to the Central City Association and other contributors (lobbyists) who don't like socially-conscious protesters pointing out that they are, in many instances, unprosecuted criminals, effectively protected from culpability or liability by useful stooges like Trutanich? Looks like we're going to find out.

“With Trutanich's proven track record as a 'grandstander' and his personal need to achieve publicity to further his political career, it seems likely that Trutanich will seek to financially ruin the Occupiers, as well as the taxpayers of Los Angeles, who have to fund his fiascoes.”

Also from LA Dragnet the following revelation:

“Trutanich faces overwhelming opposition from the 1,000 deputy district attorneys who do not want Trutanich to be their next boss.”

As if to make the point for him, the following comment was lifted from “Joe Friday's” blog by a typical hack-thug-troll:

“As usual more lies from 'Joe Friday' who is too chicken to use his real name. Well we all know who you are, and so does Nuch. Get ready for some freeway therapy you are a stooge and a betrayer and you will pay.”

Uh oh. Sounds like “Joe Friday” pushed the wrong button. No chickens here. We don't write these stories and post them to the Internet to maintain anonymity like the cowards that post comments like this. But he did a pretty good job of providing a preview of what to expect from Trutanich as he continues to pursue bogus charges against advocates for social justice.

Trutanich likes to say (ad nauseum) that he is not a politician; that he is content with his status as City Attorney, but his actions tell another story:

“What a coincidence. Last year, City Attorney Carmen Trutanich scribbles a legal opinion invalidating a vendor contract at LAX.

“Now Council awards a new ten-year vendor contract at LAX. To a firm represented by John Ek, who hosted a fundraising party for Trutanich in April (2011).”

The first article on the possible candidacy of the “Nuch” was published by the LA Weekly on January 27, 2011. Couldn't help but note at the time that County DA Steve Cooley's wife was one of the first contributors to his campaign which didn't seem consistent with the following from LA Weekly:

“But shortly after the first of the year, Cooley got a call from John Shallman, the consultant who ran an insurgent campaign to oust Gil Garcetti in 2000. Shallman, according to a person with knowledge of the conversation, told Cooley that he would be managing Trutanich's campaign.

“Cooley was livid.

“He had lent credibility to Trutanich when he was still a long-shot for city attorney, and helped him retire campaign debt after he had won. He had made Trutanich.”

Not long after the article was published, Cooley announced that he would not seek re-election, a complete reversal of his stance after he lost a close contest to Kamala Harris for state Attorney General. (Cooley wasn't much of a politician either as it turns out). But you have to wonder about a guy who has contributors telling LA Weekly: “He's fucking insane . . . He sounds like a thug,” which seems to be a recurring theme among both his supporters and his opposition. (See link above).

And this is the guy who has threatened to sue protesters who were under the impression via resolution passed by the City Council, that they were welcome and in fact invited to stay as long as they wished? The guy who apparently thinks that $1.7 million is overtime is the burden of those who were targeted by at least 12 undercover cops? Are their salaries part of the cost to the city as well? What about all the other agencies that also sent undercover officers that were generally a pain in the ass while we watched their “undercover” antics? They were tripping over each other, all of them on the public payroll. Are we on the hook for their salaries too? Just put in on our bill.

It might be worth mentioning here that many of the occupiers have no intention of answering the suit, but some would welcome the opportunity to counter any complaint with their own suit against Trutanich and the city, something that Mr. Trutanich can make possible if he makes good on his threats.

The courts would be a much better venue for a serious examination of all the issues, especially the constitutional questions. Such a suit would also provide an opportunity to subpoena all the records of public officials, LAPD, and County Sheriff Lee Baca who once again proved why his department has attracted not only the attention of civil rights attorneys, but also the feds.

(The following report resulted in some bad ink for Baca and the feds are apparently investigating without his knowledge or participation. Turns out Baca has accepted more gifts than all of the other 57 sheriff departments in California combined, the cash value in excess of $100,000). In fact, Baca has changed course so often it's getting hard to figure out exactly what he means when he's quoted. Who is going to get the blame for the various transgressions that have surfaced this year? Thanks to the Los Angeles Times for comprehensive reporting on the subject:

Trutanich and his well-known tactics of intimidation and threats are welcome to pursue a suit based on the flimsy arguments he would be obliged to present to the court. And many of us who were witnesses would also relish the opportunity to be called (and then report as the documents that are brought in provide the answers to a lot of suspicions that can't be proven . . . yet). Can't wait to see the records of how the raids were planned and executed. As Justice Brandeis said, “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”

See you in court “Nuch” but this word of advice while you're considering legal action. Threats, intimidation and malicious prosecution don't go over too well with this group. At least those of us who know that bullshit spewing from bullshitters who made careers out of bullshitting the public are not to be taken seriously.

On this occasion, even the Los Angeles Times agrees that the “Nuch” is engaging in a folly that to many of us appears to be a form of harassment. Their editorial board can speak for themselves:
