6/9/12: Extraordinary Restructuring Assembly for General Assembly

On Saturday, June 9th, an Extraordinary assembly to be held to discuss and make decisions on proposals for Occupy Los Angeles’ assemblary structures. This will be a kid-friendly space for all ages and families!

Proposals which have been crafted by discussion topics, working group meetings, and open source tools, will be heard, one by one, and discussed to see if consensus can be built. There will be a special and one time 60 person quorum for this assembly. You can read and EDIT the proposals on http://restructuring.wikispaces.com/ and join the working group crafting it to meet on Thursday June 6th at 7pm at Pershing Square.
Also, this Monday, June 4th, and Wednesday June 6th, we would like to have the proposals above discussed during the discussion section at the Occupy Los Angeles General Assembly.

Proposals as they stand:

Restructuring Proposal
Type: Action/Process/Statement
Working Group: Esteban Gil, Jessica Rey, Anthony, Ryan Rice, Eddie, Sean
Next meeting to be held after the Facilitation Committee meeting on Wednesday May 30th

Multiple proposals to be discussed one by one at an extraordinary Assembly on Saturday, June 9th themed GA. This way we have time to reach out to more people for broader support in discussion and more input in decision making of the infrastructure of OLA. Please note: if you are an affinity, working or committee group please see if you will be able to come on Mondays (to meet newcomers) or on Thursdays (to have discussions, activities, etc)

Why:

To make our Assemblies more dynamic, organic, creative, and productive and to connect people more easily within our movement.

Proposal 1
What: General Assembly every Friday Night at 7:30pm

How: General Assemblies--where proposals from working groups are heard, discussed, and consented to, as well a break-out discussion circles are to be heard only on Fridays.

Proposal 2
What: Outreach/Ideas Assembly on Every Monday

How: Loosely facilitated assembly structured as an open forum (1 facilitator, 1 stacker, 1 working group builder to take name/info/concept). Ideas can be shared, brainstorming can be undertaken, working groups can be built amongst attendees. Direct Responses would be empowered so that ideas can be grown. The Welcome Tent could be set up and volunteers could staff it and greet newcomers. Committees and affinity groups are encouraged to be present to connect with newcomers.

Order of Day:

Introduction
Welcome Newcomers
Announcements (actions, committee times, working group meetings, events, etc)
Hand Signals
Open Forum

Proposal 3
What: Social/Cultural Assembly Every Thursday Night at 7:30pm

How: Every Thursday, the Occupy Los Angeles General Assembly invites group participation in weekly social and cultural activities. Committees, affinity groups, and any other working groups or formations (also encouraged from Monday's idea forum) are encouraged to attend for discussion circles, to share food, give presentations, hold teach-ins, or have performances. Special events could be scheduled ahead of time (bigger performances etc..)

We hope to be constantly creating a safe and constructive environment where we can all thrive. At the beginning of the first Social/Cultural night we will gather to discuss vibes--what kind of feelings the space should create and what the purpose of the space should be, and what kind of behaviors are acceptable and unacceptable.

Rough list of affinity groups, working groups, and committees (feel free to add others).
