Mayor Villaraigosa served notice on Friday that Occupy Los Angeles is no longer welcome, the occupiers asked to leave by 12:01 AM Monday morning. This of course, caused angst and consternation amongst the occupiers, but it was by no means a surprise to anyone who has been following the news.
"The idea is simple, hit the corporations that corrupt and control American politics where it hurts, their profits," the group's Facebook page reads, describing Black Friday as the "one day where the mega-corporations blatantly dictate our actions."
The 50-day point was passed, but will the Occupy Los Angeles encampment last another 50? And if not, what will cause the disbursement of more than 500 people at a given time? Will it be the city council, the cops, the fire marshal? Or will the Occupation Movement suffer from apathy or fatigue or buckle under the pressure of the elements, the lack of food and shelter during the winter?
The pepper spray incident at UC Davis went predictably viral and the fallout has begun with suspensions of the officers involved and an investigation by the Chancellor. It won’t end there.
