An independent audit recently conducted by Phil Ting, Assessor-Recorder for the county of San Francisco, indicates a “crisis of compliance” within proof of bank ownership of many foreclosed properties.
Wednesday, January 4th was a long day for Rich, a ruddy-faced and Bronx-accented member of Occupy Los Angeles. There was an event planned that afternoon at the home of Faith Parker, a 78-year-old retired schoolteacher and mother facing foreclosure. The problem: Ms. Parker lived eleven miles away in South Central. Rich, 20 years homeless, rose early and began walking. “Sure, I could’ve bummed bus fare. But then you don’t get to see anything along the way,” he later told me.
UPDATE: H.R. 3166 is a horrifying bill which has just been introduced within the House of Representatives committee process. An identical bill has been introduced within the Senate committee process.
On Monday, October 24, 2011, thirteen brave souls ventured forth from the loving embrace of Occupy Los Angeles' base camp. They strode with purpose as their footsteps echoed throughout the corridors of Civic Center Metro Station. Their destination: a guitar pick-shaped slice of freedom. There was a man they needed to see.
