INTRODUCTION

Principles of Solidarity / Statement of Non-Violence / Community Guidelines / Hand Signals / Agenda.

Today's GA Discussion: Leadership.

8:03 pm:  [15 MINUTE BREAKOUT GROUPS ON 'LEADERSHIP'].

8:19 pm:  Leadership occurs naturally, ...include transparency into our definition of leadership...

C.R.Legal:  Leaders are necessary but they must be transparent and report back to us. ...Leaders should be rotated every 30 days ...so that no ...secret agreements.  [leads to] greed. ...That the love of money is...

...Group that a leader would take away from the movement. More discussion is needed and that a point person or representative would be a better way to go... ...that the best way to proceed forward

That Occupy LA is a leadership movement. ... the 99% must work together to create a peaceful and just society.

the concept of 'Vox Populii'... We do not have leaders ...the decisions are made by open source ... the vox populii leader speaks for the people of vox populii...

I am speaking to you as a spokesperson for my small coll...must be rotated . we will all represent the needs and the goals of the movement.

I am here representing my small group. we briefly discussed the issue of leadership. and a point ...made ....to meet with certain individuals in the media. Such individuals will be chosen by the group. ...approved... ...if such persons deviate from those ...then the person will no longer represent the group.

i was not elected by my people right now. ...and if I was to decide on my own. ...all of those people that spoke for their groups were elected. ...I was not elected ...when we talk about having transparency and spokesperson. ...represent us [talking with] police ,,,authorities, and officials.

PROPOSALS

8:32 pm, Jeremy: This is a public statement and delivery as such. A proposal for transparent and ...communication. The General Assembly has already agreed that no individual has the right. ...or speak on behalf of ...[NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY][NEED COPY]

*THIS PROPOSAL IS ON THE INTERNET SOMEWHERE*

8:30 pm [BEGIN QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS]

8:52 pm:  Does anyone agree as I do that certain parts of this need to be looked at.

8:57 pm:  [TEMPERATURE CHECK ON TAKING A LOOK AT THIS PROPOSAL, ARTICLE BY ARTICLE, THERE WERE CONCERNS].

8:57 pm:

The language is abrasive and peace love should be

The proposer will have to answer more than just the proposal but other questions that will

I like the incendiary language.

9:08 pm Julia...I agree with this proposal. Why are we so concerned about offending them. They don't like us. ...people are already speaking in the name of Occupy LA.

9:10 pm We should include the General Assembly has consented to ...we should include the Principles of Non-Violence.

9:12 pm I want speak in favor of this proposal...actually excited that it's being put forward. ...Also, we already have people/groups speaking for Occupy LA speaking for us, without seeking permission to speak for us. ...also excited that Jeremy took the time to put this forward to the GA.

Jewremy ...That Lori has helped putting this forwarded.

It should be re-drafted. ...In its present form ...counter productive in its present form ...to verbiose. ...one sentence is actually a paragraph long. ...If we are going to be presenteed to the Mayor and the Chief of Police. ...it needs to be re-drafted.

I really support the spirit of this document. ...we can pass it ...when it is ready.  ....we have people that have taken leadership positions and ...put this movement in jeopardy. ...if ...have deep concerns about the future of Occupy Los Angeles.

The part about the GA being the voice for Occupy LA is the core of this... ...There is a ...political polemic that reminds me in tone of the Communist Manifesto. ...Those are the things that are fighting each other.

PROPOSERS ADDRESS CONCERNS AND COMMENTS

Jeremy ...Clearly it's the case that the General Assembly speaks for itself.

This idea ...process combines with polemic. ... the mayor , city council , LAPD ...they never mention the jGeneral Assembly is trying to smear us here.... ...I agree some of it is inflamatory... ...there are also some good family men who are Nazis. ...we are here not to oppose the people in the government. I agree this is abput love. Sometimes love can be tough. I am willing to add that we are 'beckoning'. ...at the same time there's no teeth in this document. If the police are going to ...a more transparent and. ...7 to 10 days... ...we should prepare as much as we can.

PJ ...speaking on their own accord tonioght

Jeremy:  I'm open to it. if everyone ....then we can work this out tonight. ...clarity, ...we could add some

I would point out... last paragraph [[Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy][Copy]

...maybe it should say 'peacefully' here.

If the proposer is ... to rework the language of theis proposal. He is essentially 'Tabling' his own proposal.

Point of Process:  This is not a 'Table', it is a 'Pull'.

[BREAKOUT GROUPS]

9:45 pm:  That thed GA is not the 'Voice' of rather the 'decision'

We make more of a presence in

...we should have a more physical presence at Occupy LA. ...it's not a reference to the content. ...what this means is that more of the people have to know of this.

In our group it was agreed that though this document is important... we must get it out quickly. ..some said five days and ...what would happen we tell the press that in five days we would have a ress conference. also, in [it] anything said 'not' by the GA is...

[AMMENDMENTS ON THE FLY]

Jeremy ist line take out speaks ...'we ask you to join us' ...it is beneath them [take out 'even']... ...especially an assembly of people who have asserted that this is a non-violent movement.... ...we hope that all people everywhere assemble... ...

Anyone who can write that short succinct statement... I will support it ...definitely...

10:12 pm:  [THERE WERE THREE HARD BLOCKS, THIS ITEM WAS TABLED].

INTRODUCTION

7:36 pm:

This is day 49.

INDIVIDUAL ANNOUNCEMENTS; ON A DAY OF ACTIONS!

7:51 pm, Anthony:  I was arrested last night. So were these guys [A DOZEN OF THEM SIT UP FRONT]

7:52 pm, Mark: [READING] The movement makes us strong. None of us expected to be arrested this day. ...the owner's of Zuccotti Park a line was being drawn. ...standing shoulder to shoulder ...cause worth dying for ...a chance to leave was no option... ...History the future, the man's courage... ordinary fragile people... ...can make a difference. ...not just for themselves but for everyone... ...in equality. ...the inevitable confrontation... ...but it was too late! THE WORLD WAS WATCHING! ...We reminded them of ...honor... ...forcing tyranny after all is a dirty business... ...of the true criminals... ...we began to sing... ... showing the [HE LEADS THE ASSEMBLY IN SONG TO THE TUNE OF GLORY ALLELUJAH, WHILE THE INCARCERATED TAKE TURNS SAYING "MY NAME IS..."] ..."Solidarity forever, solidarity forever, solidarity forever, the movement makes us strong" [ASSEMBLY MEMBERS HUMMING THE TUNE LOWLY].

-Matt:  Sometimes jail is the only place for an honest man. -Martin Luther King, Jr.=

7:59 pm, Anthony:  [STATES AGENDA FOR THESE SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS].

8:00 pm, :  We staged the gear below. As soon as the march took place, we used the crowd as cover and we brought up the tents, I screamed "GO!". ...and we put up the tents faster and we screamed "SOLIDARITY FOREVER" ...i found myself face to face with a baton ...a person... ...I believe that two of the female officers were actually crying and the other officers wouldn't look us in the eye... ...even the most hardest among them started to see us as human. And when they starated to take me away, they were actually decent to me. [CHEERS AND APPLAUSE, ASSEMBLY CONTINUES SINGING 'SOLIDARITY FOREVER'].

8:03 pm:  Yesterday morning, the first protest had a bicycle police line in front of the ... the media and ...were standing in front of the police line. ...arrested by the police ...asked me to step back... he didn't answer... ...I stayed... ...I tried to get on my bike .... ...and got tackled by three officers [who] kept telling me to stop resisting. They had me down [HE ILLUSTRATES FACE TO GROUND]. ...We got interrogated ...he tried to ask me about ... a lot of irrelevent [things]. ...He was trying to find my personality... ...We were in there and ...it was a [big] waste of time ...for hours ...going back and forth... ...I was arrested at 8:15 am and I got booked at 10:15 am. ...They woke me up at 3 am to give me breakfast. ...They moved me around about 3 or 4 times. ...We got transferred to the Twin Towers... ...I got sent to see an infractions judge [for] not paying the Metro. ...and I never got to see the [expletive] judge. ...I pleaded guilty for the warrants. ...It was interferring with their actions.

{MEMBER ASKS] Does anybody know anything about Blue?

[SPEAKER CONTINUES] When I got tackled I fell down. If any body has seen my glasses I need them because I can't see anything.

They didn't even know what was going on... ...We're ...Occupy the doggie park... ...While I was there I took many pictures, telephoto pics of what we thought were ...they were foam batons. ...literature on it [says] "This may cause death to... ...or other persons." On my arrest I told them I have Hypertension and need medication. ...;The tossed my wallet and my medication.

...Our mission was to scout and see what was going on around the perimeter at Bank of America Plaza. ...On our way up ...Occupier paraphernalia. ...We were stopped by an older woman [who] of Japanese decent ...She said "Thank you for what you are doing" she said "Every night we watch TV and the only thing that makes us hopeful is what you are doing." I knew that I ...arrested but after that conversation I knew I wanted to get arrested because it was meaningful. ...I told everyone that I was scared and immediately felt better ...the people on the inside and even on the outside, we could hear you chanting and it was beautiful.

Some of the things we did right. It was a group effort. Everyone did right. From the people negotiating to the people inside the tent. ...The police can attack us at will. What saved us is [when we work together]. ...Because we have the time the people 'bought' us we were able to humanize, [and] have them see us as people. Because of this they hesitated, and they broke solidarity. Several officers physically did not want to attack us. We spoke to them of honor, dignity, and what their grandchildren would ask them "Which side of the line do you stand?"  the Big officer started to cry and ...patted him on the shoulder and told him it was goint to be alright. ...The time we did not get brutalized.

...About standing our grounds. When the police want to move in ...when our arms are lock/linked ...you are resisting arrest and you could be booked [as such] ...making their job harder ...[they] had to stop because two of us were linking arms ...many of us when we were [HE SAYS IT MEANS THEY CANNOT ARREST US FOR RESISTING ARREST].

...When a corporation issues a citizens arrest they bring out 400 cops. FBI, Homeland Security, two paddy wagons, and a bus. This is... ...remind them that  their job is to serve and protect. ...these cops the ones you hate the most were driven crazy because you were non-violent. The only way to beat the cops is to stay non-violent.

Without your support, none of what was done yesterday would've been done. ...about the organizing, ...the Medical Tent was incredibly well equipped. We had solution for eyewashes in case of chemicals disbursed, we had gas masks inside the Medical Tent ...everything was well when it got started. It won't always be this easy but it was easy this time. ...The organizing yesterday was incredibly [well done]. ...We shut down the streets and the bank. Remember that. [CHEERING AND APPLAUSE].

[JAKE TALKS ABOUT THE JAIL INSIDE]:  I've been [to] jail before. Cops and jailers are two different... ....Jailers are no nonsense. to a jailer you are a criminal. ...They will move you around a lot. Stay together when you can. Know each other's information. Jailers will be ...they don't differentiate betweeen old/young, big/small... that's the system. Some [paraphernalia] Knives, guns, swords, drugs, ...if you have a camera they will likely take the simm card. Entrust your [personal items] to a friend or relative. When the [handcuff] you flex your wrists a little. It will give you a little room. ...Don't be afraid to give your name. Have your ID on your person. They will try to separate you by what you tell them. The information they give you ...the food you will eat. [I.e. FROM KAT: IF YOU SAY THAT YOU ARE VEGETARIAN, THEY WILL GIVE YOU BETTER FOOD].

If you say you have to go to the bathroom they may likely cut the ties and may not even put them back.

8:33 pm:  Elena :  We are now moving on to the Outside part. I was arrested in the morning ...helped out getting people out in the afternoon. You have to give your real first and last name. We should all collect first and last names before we go to jail ...so we can bail you out. For example we could not get a 90 year old man out of jail because we did not know his last name. ...[The cops were not helpful]. We finally got him out... We also, need a team of lawyers ...legal observers, [and] a phone number we can [use] to call from jail. Cops will give you mis-information. ...We made a decision to prioritize the people with the lowest bail. ...other citations probably had a higher bail. ...out of jail as soon as possible. ...regardless of what their record is. we need bail money.

When we were inside two police officers identified themselves to us as infiltrators. we have seen them on marches. ...there are people right across the street [POINTS TO THE POLICE HEADQUARTERS] who [?will march with us?].

Richard:  One of my favorite things about yesterday is having a 'Teach-In' with the police. ...We were able to educate them on ...their role in revolutions. ...[told them all in line] ...that some of you might start to think about breaking ranks. ...In Egypt ...when we show love to them in uniform ...we are all caught up in each other's hunanity. ...either we all have a pizza, or you shoot teargas at us. I saw one of them smiling and I said "Magellan, I see you want pizza." and he started laughing. ....There is a small amount of reconcialiation between people...authorities that did cry and it is beautiful...

on Wikileaks see it at wlcentral.org.

...Strangers were dropping off money... Benjamins, Boom. ...we bailed them out.

When I got out a 3:30 my friends were waiting for me .The clapped for me and we sang solidarity songs. ...I stayed ...for the group ...we could greet all our sisters and brothers together.

Yesterday I made friends with Officer Gonzalez. For once I saw a person and not a bench. I see this as bringing us all together...

Yum yum's name is probably not Yum yum, but he was inside writing down everybody's name he's awesome ...and delicious! [CHEERING AND APPLAUSE].

I think a lot of the people yesterday didn't know if they were going to be arrested and decided to get arrested. ...and the things such as vinegar soaked bandanas. were. ...to dialogque with the police was excellent,.. It was a very nice arrest ...solidarity inside and outside made it an awesome experience for everyone involved.

Last night an affinity group started. ...Yesterd and this morning we were released and waited while [the rest] got out. We had coffee and cigarettes for them. ...so we could continue with this epic action ...taking back this country. We're meeting this Sunday on the West Steps at 5 pm.

We still have a couple of people in jail. Please come to the [afforementioned] meeting [above] so that we can take donations to get them out... Jose Navarro, Alejandro Torres are still in jail.

We have court dates and we would ...to see all of your faces. ...to go to these court [sessions]. [?Misdemeanor/infractions?].

This is day 48.

7:38 pm:  Hand signals.

7:39 pm:  Agenda.

INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTS OF TODAY'S PEACEFUL, NON-VIOLENT ACTIONS

7:42 pm, Julie:  I was told by Mario that if we didn't leave the grass by 4 pm that we would be arrested. ...some of us left to where it would be safe. I was in the plaza and they cornered us with bicycles and fences with only one way out.

Mike:  I understand there were 46 arrests all non-violent. This movement made a great statement. The media was there ...the police were in riot gear. ...I don't think we had too many demonstrators

I was with a group of non-violent demonstrators who were non-violent and all arrested. They said that the Bank of America told them to arrest them.. ...$500 dollars bail.

I was at the non-violent march today. ...and Mario needs to know you are not allowed to lay hands on another person. They were grabbing people and moving them. So, let's not put hands on each other unless they're getting the shit beat out of them.

Alejandra, ...I think what we did today was is extremely powerful. However, I ... it got broken up at Bank of America plaza... The police got closer and closer. ...And then Mario Breecho came and told us to leave. He said that the camp was under attack and the if we wanted to maintain solidarity  that we needed to leave. Mario let people get arrested but he didn't get arrested. Instead he chit-chatted with the police the whole time. We need to call him forward to... this... and ...leave if...

So we raised bail money today. Miguel, myself, C.R. Legal ... $700. ...I speak for [?Resources?]. We have ...[HE GIVES ACCOUNT$].

San Diego was here today. They spent... bail costs ...they don't have anything left over. We sent a strong message to the city of LA. I walked by a restaraunt and 30 people were watching the screens. ...I saw several people shouting their support... ...Los Angeles Credit Union. The two of us ...I took for hours and met at the city attorneys office the lady there is Valerie Florez. We talked to her about getting a restraining order for such raids. ...She's aware that the police are gathering evidence and.... ...Their hands are sort of tied. We have an opportunity to set an example. ...that the Nation ...Nation's Capitol.

Tonight was powerful because of the actions. ...and without a permit. it is important that we see ourselves linked to organized labor. We need organized labor to help us defend this camp. INTRODUCTION

7:47 pm:

This is day 46.

There is an Occupier's Assembly which discusses camp issues.

Principles of Solidarity

Hand Signals

Gratefulness Statements From Individuals at the General Assembly

...I am grateful for all of you.

...I really appreciate the people who take minutes.

...I am grateful especially for the Facilitations Committee for being daring and caring.

...I am grateful for all of your presence.

...I am thoroughly greatful to God for this movement. ...trying to get our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan.

...I'm grateful for helping people.

...I am not American so I am very grateful for you at Occupy LA for being so welcoming.

...I am gratful for people getting along here, stepping up. ...and building these relationships that we are having here.

...I am grateful to be standing here and truly inspired.

...I want to tell you that I see you, this whole project as a public image that is crossing over to everybody's psyche ...beyond.. ...this place is the model... ...vulnerable while ....this collective.

Preparation, Resist, and Recovery

Preparation Questions:

What is your role, do you have supplies, where do you make a stance, what do you say to authorities, what do you do if that authority sequesters you, where will you rally, where will you reoccuppy?

8:10 pm:  [THE GA FORMS THREE BREAKOUT GROUPS, FOR TEN MINUTES].

[I JOINED THE PREPARATION GROUP] HERE:

Preparation is mental, what do we do when that happens?

We need to focus on staying with our Democratic process.

We need to get our Twitter accounts linked to our cell phones.

Don't smoke here, don't drink here.

What if someone provokes the [LAPD]?

When you see someone inciting violence everyone pulls out the camera while stepping away to keep the separation while repeating "They are not with us."

Soaking towels/handkerchief in vinegar.

There is supposed to be a peaceful communication with the police... to look rational ...remember to present yourself in a very civilized way.

People have to know what their limits are I.e. not to get arrested if they cannot do that.

Consider equipment and valuables.

The women's circle had a conversation: If a raid occurs the children will go in a Westerly direction so that they will be okay.

Create a sign saying "CHILDREN ARE PRESENT".

How to prolong or prevent the raid.

If we keep all our places clean (porta-poddies, sanitation).

To ask Scott about preparedness training for 'Civil-Disobedience'.

[END BREAKOUT GROUP].

[BEGIN BREAKOUT GROUP POINT PERSON FINDINGS]

8:25 pm, :  We have a Where, What and When. We discussed the personal issue of whether or not to be arrested so people could consider their personal profiles... Staying together and holding a specific place. That the last ten or so people will probably be sitting in the center somewhere having a good old fashioned GA. We should be taking shifts during the night and providing people with coffee and cigarettes. Linking arms and calling people to join us.

8:28 pm, Vanessa, Prevention: Public Image, Public drinking and smoking. Video tape violent protesters and stand back, mental preparation, stay focused on why we are here. plan a strategy for the children with signs that says "Children are Present", anti-teargas, water and Maalox. Get on Twitter and get a link to your mobile today.

830 pm, Daniel, Resistance:  Mobil/Passive resistance. For Mobil resistance it may be more effective if the cops have to chase us around a little. For passive resistance, it looks bad if police have to drag us or pull us from laying down. It gives us opportunities to record these events. Counter to this it hasn't been historically effective in America. Also, do we choose to protect certain targets here such as the library or children's camp. Counter to that is people must be protected as well. Concerns are organization and violence against the protesters themselves.

8:35 pm, Sarah and Jeremy, Recovery:  Firstly, occupy in a physical place, Secondly, maintain communication I.e. phone or text system. and Thirdly, to make sure we reoccupy. Call all your neighbors and friends. The day after,, for potential violence against peaceful people. We will reAssert our rights. Pershing square by five pm. Then we come back and have the biggest GA we've ever had. In numbers ... The very next day we meet at Union Square and do the same thing. We don't die! We multiply!

8:38 pm, PJ:  The most important thing is everyone to plug your self into Twitter OccupyLA and you will be prepared if you are plugged in.  Heaven's forbid should we leave here. But we will go to Pershing Square and wait for our brothers and sisters and then march to Farmer's Field. The one thing to realize is ...the massive NFL stadium that is the. Our doners want the football field. Don't mess up with the Mayor, we can occupy your football field.
