Principles of Solidarity ////Working Draft
Through a direct democratic process… we have come together as individuals and crafted these principles of solidarity, which are points of unity that include but are not limited to: Engaging in direct and transparent participatory democracy; Exercising personal and collective responsibility; Recognizing individuals’ inherent privilege and the influence it has on all interactions; Empowering one another against all forms of oppression; Redefining how labor is valued; The sanctity of individual privacy; The belief that education is human right; and Endeavoring to practice and support wide application of open source. We are daring to imagine a new socio-political and economic alternative that offers greater possibility of equality. We are consolidating the other proposed principles of solidarity, after which demands will follow.

Committee Proposals
8:45 pm, Julia: This is for political independence for Occupy LA
1, Occupy LA retains political independence from parties that receive multimillion dollar donations from corporations and banks.
2. Occupy LA retains political independence from parties that receive multimillion dollar donations from corporations and will challenge their position when they come into Occupy LA
3. …refrain from electioneering in the Occupy LA space.
8:48 pm [YELLING FROM THE BACK OF THE CROWD]
8:45 pm, Jessica: I would like to remind you to please see a stacker.
8:46 pm, Julia: In terms of a sign… …we don’t have access to multimillion dollar radio announcements… … we should have ours.
8:51 pm, What about people like Ralph Nader who comes here and electioneers for President.
8:43 pm, Julia: The idea is like when you go to the polls and they are not allowed to electioneer within a certain area. This is the same.
8:53 pm, Julia: I chose those groups because they have the financial will to control…
8:54 pm, Julia: I am simply addressing the multimillion dollar corporations particularly the Republican and Democratic parties… and that we don’t want to endorse those groups.
8:55 pm, Jessica: Explains the rest of the Proposal process.
8:56 pm, Justin: The third parties are so small why don’t we just
8:56 pm, Julia: Occupy LA was started in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and they were going against the multimillion dollar corporations and banks.
8:57 pm, Julia: The reason why I did was to address those working as paid staff working with the group.
8:59 pm, , : Should this be about individuals. I feel like you are leaving the back door open for the communist party or the…[?] party.
9:00 pm, , : [POWER FAILURE CAUSES MIKE CHECK AND PEOPLE’ES MIC]
9:02 pm, Eduardo: [READS A WRITING OF HIS CONCERN]
Occupy LA has claimed this public space to empower the people and build community and solidarity among the 99%. It is our intent to keep this space free of corrupt political parties and corporations that exploit people and planet in the blind pursuit of power and profit. Do not dare come into our space representing a corrupt poitical party or corporation unless you are prepared to accept financial transparency as an organization. We will demand to know how and from where you receive your funding or generate your revenue. We will demand to know how you manage your finances and how you contribute to the greater good. We are the 99% and we will not be co-opted.
9:12 pm, : We don’t support ANYONE here at Occupy LA whether it be a corporation, political party, or banks… not supporting anyone AND by saying who we won’t support, I think that this would be a dangerous move toward the solidarity of the movement and that is why I don’t support this proposal.
Concerns on the Proposal
Does this mean that Occupy LA is capable of being co-opted by a poor political party.
I agree with the general idea of this proposal but we need to get out there and meet people. Instead of trying to alienate people from the Democratic Party…
We’re trying to stand up agains
Sharon I am a member of the progressive caucus of the Democratic Party… …I think Part III of your proposal needs clarity… … this movement is gaining momentum… …and if you go the route that you’re proposing this will divide the momentum of the movement.
We have an example… Ron Paul said, ?… …

My personal activities here is not letting people go the wrong way when I think they are about to go the wrong way. I like people running for President and I like people electioneering. I will never let you hijack this.
I have a friendly amendment: We are not endorsing any political party at Occupy LA.

The battle right now in our country is to protect rights
9:39 pm, Jessica, I need a temperature check on the whole proposal as is.
9:419 pm, Temperature Check: [THERE WERE SEVERAL HARD BLOCKS].
[THEY BREAK OUT INTO SMALL GROUPS].
This proposal is about the banks, corporations and political parties.
There are five hard blocks.
Julia: I said I would change the language. I changed number three that there be no political campaigning for officers or candidates from parties that accept multimillion dollar donations, instead of ‘electioneering’
Volunteers should be allowed to watch…
Political campaigning is open to interpretation
Julia: Political Campaigning is pretty clear to me.
Dick: I am afraid you [may] open the movement to the Communists, Nazis and Socialists which would undermine the validity of the movement.
10:03 pm, Jessica: This proposal will not be able to reach consensus… …This GA is now ended.
