Bobby Gill Dies, Stephen Whittier  Injured after Being Hit By Dump Truck on Highway 17 near Vine Hill Road.

Santa Cruz, California (February 9, 2017) – A 54-year-old male construction worker was struck dead on Thursday afternoon by a dumb Truck on Highway 17 in the Santa Cruz mountain.

The incident took place at about 12.07 p.m. near Vine Hill Road

According the CHP reports, the collision occurred on the northbound lanes of the highway near Vine Hill Road.

The victim identified as 54-year-old Bobby Gill of Los Banos, and his co-worker, Stephen Whittier, 34, of San Jose, were removing debris from a recent mudslide, when they were struck by the dump truck.  

Bobby Gill was killed in the crash while Whittier was pinned underneath the truck. The crews at the scene extricated Whittier and transported him to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation.
