81-Year-Old Man Struck and Killed By Hit-and-Run Driver in National City

National City, California (February 14, 2017) – An 81-year-old National City man died Monday night after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking his dog near his home in National City, police said.

At about 6:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, the victim’s housemate heard the crash and went outside where they found the elderly man down in the eastbound lanes of 4th Street near Euclid Ave.

The vehicle involved in the accident had already fled the scene.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the injured man to a hospital with major injuries. Unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries two hours later.

His name was withheld by the Medical Examiner’s office pending family notification.

There was no description of the suspect vehicle or the driver.


The incident remains under investigation.
