[Video] #OWS There is a place in Van Nuys called #FortHernandez. It is a home filled with children and indignation. They are among the 174 houses in just their zipcode whose homes are being stolen by the banks - by disaster capitalism.
The difference is that the Hernandez family has decided to do something about it. They have called on their community to defend their home - defend it from the illegal foreclosure, the fraudulent claims, the missing paperwork, the nonexistent title, the hired guns wearing the State's uniform, and the vultures in suits circling in their board rooms above.
And so a barricade and the banners were raised. It rose slowly at first, with some chicken wire and cardboard signs laying out a rough perimeter. As the resolve of the indignant grew, though, so did the wall. It is strong now. It isn't going away. Agents of the state may one day come to bulldoze it with taxpayer money, but by then it will be too late. More barricades are already being built. Resistance is growing.
This is happening across this country. Don't let the magnitude of the numbers desensitize you to the horror of this State-sanctioned land grab. Each of the millions of homes stolen has stories just like this. And the people have had enough - ripples of protests across the nation are growing, with #FortHernandez just another example of the community taking to the barricades.
From Los Angeles to Chicago, Oakland to Boston, home defenses are popping up because that defiant act of self-defense is all the People have left from this vampire squid. This is what is needed. Every street corner alive with revolt, no family defenseless against the 1%.
Thank you, Fort Hernandez. You've dropped their ball and refused to play their crooked game. Solidarity. ♥ RR
