Hello :) My name is Tehani and I am the artistic director of an event called Artists for Action.
Artists for Action is a FREE community concert and public forum addressing issues of social/political/environmental/cultural justice and equality through art. Every participating artist has either a personal or professional connection to their subject matter - making the message that much more powerful, tangible and real. We cannot create change from the "hypothetical" we have to be coming from a place of visceral experience.
I am looking for more visual artists and spoken word artists to address community issues and themes through their art. Each artivist is asked to do their research and become an "expert" on their subject matter and the current state of the issue they are dealing with in the Greater Los Angeles area, as they will be a part of a Q&A with the audience and panel discussion at the end of the performance/presentation portion of the event.
Currently, we are still missing pieces about the environment/sustainability, homelessness and the transgender community. My goal for Artists for Action is to find the painful silence and shout there as a community. We are not going to speak about gun control - there is no silence there. My priority is bringing the silent issues to the light and addressing why they are silent and what we can do about it as a community.
ARE YOU AN ARTIVIST? PLEASE JOIN US!!! WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU!!!
I hope you will consider joining me at Artists for Action! The event is held Feb 23, 2013 at 7pm in Long Beach. I have reached out to Occupy LB but have not heard back, so I am posting here in hopes to find some willing artivists to participate in this much needed public discussion. This event is free and open to the general public.
