Occupy LA Raid Cost Update

Santa Monica, December 14th 2011 -

In light of the recent raid upon the Occupy LA encampment, many wondered how much of our resources had been spent on clearing out City Hall. With over 1400 cops, choppers, bomb squads, HAZMAT suits and more – the cost is likely high. The outcome could potentially make public the immense and disheartening mismanagement of money by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

As a witness to the entire raid process put fourth with a chilly calculation to not just clear out the area but bestow fear in people, I have been seeking out a detailed report. The cost could very well be upwards of a million dollars, a ludicrous amount of money when Veterans and homeless are still in the streets with no end to their houseless-ness in sight.

Upon speaking to a protected source, I learned the report had not yet been completed. I did learn that Councilmembers Englander, Zine, Parks and Krekorian have called for the report via a Council motion, which is attached.  The report, when completed, will be heard in the public safety committee, chaired by Mr. Englander, and the budget committee, chaired by Mr. Parks.  It will be made available online when submitted to the Council prior to the hearings.

Was it necessary?

They report an increased police presence was "needed" for the two months of the Occupation. Really? I didn't see a reason for them to be there. Now, sure, they may have needed to respond to some incidents, but that could have been accomplished like any other call in the city...by someone calling PD dispatch and them dispatching a car. Not permenantly stationing officers there...that was unnecessary.

Increased presence?

Funny, whenever I was there, at night there were only a few police officers to be seen. During the day even less.  So where were these additional officers?  Inside watching through the windows?

Occupy Is A Joke

Occupy Wall Street needs to shut its stupid mouth.
How dare they count every person in the ninety-nine percent they talk about as in with them.
They do not have a right to speak for me.
I like the rich.
Many of them started with nothing or almost nothing.
Steve Jobs and countless others became VERY rich after being very poor.
They did not complain.
They had ideas and went with them.
The top one percent creates jobs.
Our companies, stores, firms and on and on that employ millions were not started by poor people.
They were started by the wealthy.
Now, OWS states that the rich are our enemy.
Great, go against those who create so much.
Occupy Wall Street has got to be the most stupid bunch of idiots to ever band together.
They have no real clue as to what they are doing.
In Los Angeles, they accomplished nothing and left a mess that cost the city a lot of money.
In Seattle, OWS blocked docks and tried to prevent people from going to work.
Yet, they claim they want people to go to work.
The entire Occupy movement is a joke.
They talk for the entire ninety-nine percent, but of those ninety-nine percent of the people, about ninety percent are working.
I live in Beverly Hills and I'm doing fine.
I don't need Occupy Wall Street to tell me what to do.
