Curious what next steps will be...

So I'm wondering if the resolution has been discussed by the GA and if the larger group has discussed engagement in city politics. What I mean is, if we want the resolution to mean more than a feel good gesture, citizens of LA have to hold the council's feet to the fire to move through the responsible banking act part of the resolution. And then there's the question of wondering if we think this is an appropriate model for other cities to show support of their occupations, or at this point do we need to simply focus on solidarity to make sure other occupations can stay in one place and not be arrested, rather than the minutae of passing resolutions...or do people think this could be a good think for allied groups to do in support of the Occupy Together movement.

Earlier this year, I led a national campaign to get mayoral support for a resolution Calling On Congress to Redirect Military Spending to Domestic Priorities. The network of groups involved in that process, the New Priorities Network, are eager to move forward on pushing mayors to implement it and to get like-minded resolutions passed in their communities. I've been thinking about suggesting that they focus on occupation solidarity resolutions, but I don't have a sense if this is useful to the movement or if we should be asking allied organizations to bring their members to be part of their local occupations, rather than working on concurrent paths.

I posted my thoughts on the LA resolution on the PINKTank blog.

And here's some info on the US Conference of Mayors anti-war resolution. As an FYI, Villaraigosa is the current president of the mayors' conference.
