Occupy SFV would like to invite everyone to join us as we solidify our plans for May 1st General Strike #M1GS (North Wind Caravan). We would like all organizations, occupiers, students, teachers, unions, and many other sources of the 99%, have an open dialogue of what we strategically want to do with the plans that have so far been adopted by our General Assembly. We aim to have a truly impact-full May 1st General Strike, but in order to do so, we must unite all the struggles of the 99% as a whole.
Per our very, very sparsely attended meeting last week, we made a decision to join the OLA West Winds caravan as part of the May 1st GENERAL STRIKE ACTION.
We plan to Occupy the corner of LaBrea and Wilshire (at the BofA -- shut it down!) and then join the caravan as it travels downtown. Gathering time would be around noon, and we'll need decorated cars, signs, an action plan, etc and most importantly QUEER PEOPLE there.
On April 4th Santa Monica Police shoved their way into a group of people attempting to attend a Public Meeting of the SMC board. When the concerned citizens were unable to move fast enough Campus Police used chemical weapons on random citizens in the crowd, including a small child. Join us this weekend to alert people about this atrocity and the reason behind it, the desire for an affordable/free education.
On April 17, 2012, thousands from around the world will take part in the second annual Global Day of Action on Military Spending. With actions taking place in more than 35 countries, we will send a message to the 1% who profit off war and destruction, and the governments who do their bidding.
Global military spending reached over $1.6 trillion in 2010, and on April 17th, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute will release the data for 2011. Almost certainly, they’ll announce that military spending went up.
