Protect the Person to Your Left, Occupy Oakland, #J28, PART 1

We heard about Occupy Oakland's Move-In Day and read about their plans to occupy space and convert it into a community center. I was excited to participate in their actions, for both the learning experience and as a way to start connecting better with other occupations. In reference to Occupy Oakland, we are one and the same movement. We are all occupiers. We are brothers and sisters. And solidarity sees no regional difference.

The National Detention Authorization Act. This is the downfall signing on the behalf of our once dear Camelot Revisited President Barak Obama.  The one that caused severe damage to both his legacy as well as the American’s reputation for upholding the rule of law.  The NDAA presents a  momentous challenge to one of the founding principles of the United States—that no person may be deprived of his liberty without due process of law.

This beautiful video by Bianca Smith captures the Occupy Movement in it's most heartwarming acts of bonding and solidarity to one another, on the front steps of Congress in Washington D.C.

Wednesday, January 4th was a long day for Rich, a ruddy-faced and Bronx-accented member of Occupy Los Angeles. There was an event planned that afternoon at the home of Faith Parker, a 78-year-old retired schoolteacher and mother facing foreclosure. The problem: Ms. Parker lived eleven miles away in South Central. Rich, 20 years homeless, rose early and began walking. “Sure, I could’ve bummed bus fare. But then you don’t get to see anything along the way,” he later told me.
